About Me

Jennifer McMahon won the All-Ireland Scholarships Creative Writing Award (public category) in 2024, which was judged by Marian Keyes, Donal Ryan and Roddy Doyle. In 2023, she was a winner of the Irish Writers Centre Novel Fair, for her novel House Devil, was shortlisted for Short Story of the Year at the Irish Book Awards, and was a second-place winner of the Oxford Prize. In 2022, Jennifer was a top ten finalist in the Oxford Prize. She has won both the Bray Literary Festival and the Books Ireland Magazine flash fiction competitions, and was a winning finalist in the Fractured Literary Open Flash competition 2023.

Her work appears in Crannog (Spring 2023 and Spring 2025 issues), HOWL, Irish Independent (New Irish Writing), The Galway Review, Variant Lit, the Oxford Prize Anthology (2022 and 2023), Fractured Lit, Heimat Review (issues 2 and 6), Raw Lit, Empyrean, The Orphic Review, Lothlorien Poetry Journal, Mythic Picnic, Books Ireland Magazine, Loft Books (issues IV and V), the Retreat West ‘Swan Song’ Anthology, the Cowboy Jamboree ‘Motel’ anthology, The Irish Writers Handbook (2024 and 2025 editions), and other places.

Her stories have been shortlisted for Short Story of the Year at the Irish Book Awards, the Bridport Short Story Prize, the Allingham Flash Fiction competition, the Anthology International Short Story Award, the Alpine Fellowship Writing Prize, the Retreat West Prize (short story category), the Fish Publishing Flash Prize, the Wild Atlantic Writing Awards, and the Women On Writing Flash Fiction Prize (twice). Jennifer was also shortlisted for The Literary Consultancy Scholarship in 2022.

Jennifer has been longlisted for the Bath Short Story Award (twice), the Fractured Lit ‘Elsewhere’ Prize, the Plaza Prizes Crime First Chapters competition (for her novel Seven Deadly), Fiction Factory’s Novel First Chapter competition (for her novel House Devil), and the Retreat West Prize in the flash fiction category.

She is co-Editor-in-Chief of literary journal Frazzled Lit which features the best in modern literary prose, poetry, flash fiction and creative non-fiction, along with video interviews with prominent and up-and-coming writers. She is also the founder and organiser of the Creative Community Sessions free online speaking events, which provide a platform for emerging writers to gain increased exposure by delivering talks on the craft and business of writing.
